Traditionally, industrial water users have treated high-salinity wastewater using ecologically damaging evaporation ponds or complex, energy-hungry combinations of thermal evaporation, chemical precipitation, filtering, and ion exchange. Aquafortus’s energy-efficient alternative uses a novel absorbent to pull the water from industrial brines, allowing minerals and metals to precipitate out in the process. It then separates the water from the absorbent, which can be reused.
