Using advanced biochemistry to create a secure supply of critical minerals from waste and other low-grade sources
Hydrocarbon fuels such as methane or renewable diesel are extremely efficient carriers of energy, but it’s increasingly expensive to extract and refine them, and burning them obviously adds carbon to the atmosphere. The atmosphere itself, however, offers an effectively endless source of carbon. Circularity Fuels has built an adsorption-based reactor, powered by renewable electricity, that takes CO2 out of the air or any dilute source of CO2 and turns it into drop-in ready hydrocarbons. Already, the company is making high-purity methane at lower cost than purified fossil methane and selling it to companies that are growing diamond, graphene, and other advanced carbon materials. Eventually, Circularity plans to sell its methane, renewable diesel, and other hydrocarbons as a carbon-neutral, drop-in replacement for existing fuels.
