Stroke patients with large-vessel occlusion (LVO) should be transported immediately to comprehensive stroke centers with the technology and expertise to remove clots rather than conventional emergency departments. But EMS teams have no way to distinguish between LVO and small-vessel occlusion, which is part of the reason stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States. MindRhythm builds a novel, noninvasive head sensor that measures tiny changes in pulse readings, so emergency responders can rapidly recognize LVO strokes.
