DCVC promotes four Partners to General Partner

We are pleased to announce that Alan Cohen, James Hardiman, Jason Pontin, and Ali Tamaseb have each been promoted to General Partner. All four of these exceptional colleagues have been essential to the formation and support of our present portfolio, and will be equally important to our next phases of exploration and investment.

Alan, a veteran board member and a serial entre­pre­neur, as well as a former senior marketing executive at DCVC portfolio company Illumio, Nicira, Airespace, Cisco, and IBM, works with our portfolio companies on their go-to-market strategy, product development, and exits.

James, who has been with DCVC since 2014, is a physicist who previously helped biotech companies optimize their go-to-market strategies. He has led investments for the firm in AI platforms applied to biology, manu­fac­turing, and materials design; he has also invested in novel tools that measure and manipulate biological systems, as well as in novel compute, such as quantum computing.

Jason, cofounder of DCVC portfolio company Totus Medicines, now invests in compu­ta­tional biology and compu­ta­tional chemistry companies after a career in media running publi­ca­tions such as MIT Technology Review—a useful background as he works with the firm’s commu­ni­ca­tions team to tell the stories of DCVC and its companies.

Ali, a founder turned VC, has developed a celebrated data-driven methodology for finding ​“super founders”: entre­pre­neurs who reliably create billion-dollar companies. He employs this system — which he describes in his bestselling book Super Founders—to find, fund, and grow companies in a range of industries, including fintech, healthcare, materials, and mining.

Alan, James, Jason, and Ali are part of a DCVC team committed to finding and backing founders intent on solving the hardest problems in the world, compu­ta­tion­ally.
