Ryan manages DCVC’s legal execution and strategy, including all investing activities, portfolio matters, and compliance. Ryan also enjoys working with the founders of our companies to navigate the novel and complex challenges they face at the frontier of science and technology.
Prior to joining DCVC, Ryan was the general counsel at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) during an eight-year period of rapid growth. During his tenure, Ryan helped a16z expand into investing areas such as biotech and cryptocurrency, and built a legal team to address the increased scale and complexity of managing over $30 billion in assets. Ryan also previously worked at Cooley, advising venture capital firms and companies at every stage of growth, and was in-house counsel at two public biotech companies. Ryan received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a JD from Harvard Law School.
