Stephen is particularly interested in applying deep technology to solve problems in climate and national security. As an Entrepreneur In Residence, he is building his own clean-energy startup while helping DCVC evaluate early-stage investment opportunities.
Prior to joining DCVC, Stephen worked as a scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Pentagon. He has co-authored research papers published in numerous journals, including Chemical Science, the Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Energy and Environmental Science.
Stephen received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the U.S. Air Force Academy and an MBA from Stanford University. He performed his doctorate work under Professor Fraser Armstrong at the University of Oxford, receiving a DPhil in inorganic chemistry.
